Mergent is back; farewell MarketLine

http://www.mergentonline.com/images/mol_logo.jpg
A couple years ago the ULM Library had access to Mergent Online, a business database, but we replaced it with another database. Now we're going back to Mergent again, and it's better this time! Before, there was a limit on the number of people allowed to use it at one time. That user limit is now gone and everyone can use it when they need it!

You may now use Mergent Online here:
https://ulm.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://www.mergentonline.com

Unfortunately, Mergent will be replacing our subscription to MarketLine Advantage, which will run out at the end of this month.

New LexisNexis coming soon!

http://www.lexisnexis.com/images/logo-lexisnexis.png
LexisNexis Academic is getting a new interface on Dec. 23rd. The look will change automatically on that day, and off-campus access should be the same.

The new search page will be similar to the current one except that there is only one search blank and navigating individual types of information will be different too. Here's a video LexisNexis made showing what the new interface will be like.

New resource: Import Genius

The ULM now has access to a new database for International trade, Import Genius.

Import Genius supplies import and export data from U.S. Customs and other sources. You can use it to see what companies are shipping, how much, and to where. ULM students and employees can use it on campus through the link below (this resource is not available off-campus at this time). You should see a login screen where you can make a free account.

ACM Digital Library now off-campus

At this time, ALL of the ULM Library databases which we are able to use off-campus do work off-campus!
The ACM Digital Library (Association for Computing Machinery) database now works off-campus like the others.

The exceptions is College Source Online which we don't have an off-campus subscription to.

More resources off-campus!

Several ULM Library databases which have never been available off-campus before can now be accessed anywhere!

Also, "Web of Knowledge" used to be called "ISI Web of Knowledge," so it's now alphabetized as "W" and not "I."

Upcoming changes to the ARTstor Digital Library

ARTSTOR should now be working on the ULM Library's new EZproxy server. You don't need to create an account to use it off-campus-- although, accounts are still useful for saving bookmarked items.

ARTSTOR will also do some upgrades soon:

Upcoming changes to the ARTstor Digital Library

Please be advised that we will be performing an upgrade to the ARTstor Digital Library on Tuesday, April 16th between 6:00 AM and 1:00 PM EST. During this time, users will be able to access the Digital Library but may experience some slowness. This upgrade will eliminate the need for Java in the ARTstor Digital Library and single image downloads will be delivered in Zip files.
Many versions of Windows come equipped with a built in zip program, but if you need to install a program on your PC, ARTstor recommends 7-Zip, available free at 7-zip.org . Mac users will not need to install software to handle zip files as it is already built into OS X. If you experience any difficulties, please clear the cache on your Web browser  http://lyris.artstor.org:81/t/3459/3105525/571/15/ and restart the browser. If you continue to experience difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact User Services at userservices@artstor.org.

Kind regards,
ARTstor User Services Team

New and improved Off-Campus Access!

EDIT: May 2013

At this time, ALL of the ULM Library databases which we are able to use off-campus do work off-campus!
(with the exception of College Source Online which we don't have an off-campus subscription to.)

We are thrilled to announce that we have changed the way off-campus access works, with a new "EZproxy" server for authenticating users. But don't worry-- The login you use will remain exactly the same.

This should improve how you use databases from off-campus, and we may be able to expand some resources which have never been available off-campus before.

But there are some temporary issues to be aware of:

  • If you have saved or copied old direct links to databases, they might not work anymore. Visit the Databases By Name to get the latest links.
  • ARTSTOR  Will temporarily be accessible off-campus only with user accounts created on-campus first. Contact reference if you can't come to campus and need help making one. We will make it accessible with the same login as the others soon.  (now working normally)
  • Can't find the "special" links to Communication & Mass Media Complete and Medline® with Full Text? They now work as part of EBSCOhost and don't need special links.
  • New EBSCO folder accounts will work on and off campus with the new server. However, if you created an EBSCO folder off-campus before that, you may not be able to access it now. If you're having that problem, have a look at this page to learn how to get your citations back.

Do let us know straight away if you're having trouble with off-campus access (or anything else)!

ERIC Documents access issue

Many ERIC PDF documents are not available right now due to issues with the files. Here's a statement from the Education Resources Information Center website: http://www.eric.ed.gov/pdf_availability.html

Dear ERIC Community,

We have currently disabled access to many ERIC full-text PDFs due to the discovery of personally identifiable information in some documents. A team is in place to check each PDF to see if it contains personally identifiable information. Due to the quality of many of the documents, a large portion of the search has to be done by hand. This will take several weeks, but our primary concern is to protect the privacy of individuals.

To minimize the burden on our users, we will prioritize searching the PDFs that users request. If you would like to request a PDF to be returned online, please fill out this form, which requires only the document’s ERIC record number and your email address. Full-text PDFs will be returned on a rolling basis. We will be posting the list of newly released documents here.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and want to thank you for bearing with us through this unexpected delay.

The ERIC Team

If you need helping find the EBSCO citation, talk to us at Reference! http://www.ulm.edu/library/contact.html
